JW Hinks was established in 1896 to provide businesses in-and-around Birmingham with a wide range of accountancy and business advisory services they could trust. Over our 125 year-long history, we have combined an innovative approach to accountancy with the best traditions that the industry has to offer. Meet the team


Neal AstonManaging Partner

Qualifications: ACA, FCCA

Neal joined JW Hinks in 1984 and qualified as an accountant in 1996. Neal specialises in audit and assurance, advising clients in a number of regulated sectors. He became JW Hinks’ managing partner in 2015, and is responsible for the strategic development and management of the firm. A happily married father of two, he is a lifelong Aston Villa supporter and also enjoys a round of golf.

Marcus J RosePartner

Qualifications: FCA, CTA

Marcus trained with Austral Ryley, qualifying in 1995 and then becoming a partner in April 1998, when he also became a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. In September 2012 Austral Ryley merged with JW Hinks. Marcus acts for a wide range of clients as well as providing general practice accountancy, audit and taxation advice. He leads on advising GP and Doctors within the healthcare department. He also provides specialist management consultancy advice to a number of corporate clients. Living in Stourbridge with his wife and two children, Marcus is a lifelong Birmingham City fan. After finishing playing himself, he was involved with junior football coaching for 12 years before hanging his boots up for good!

Dan MorganPartner

Qualifications: CTA

Dan joined JW Hinks in 1999, qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2006, before becoming tax manager in 2009 and partner in 2013. Dan’s focus is on supporting entrepreneurial clients, their businesses and family on a variety of tax issues. Married with a young family, Dan enjoys watching his children play a number of sports and coaches grassroots football.

Robin BarnesPartner

Qualifications: FCA

Robin has been with JW Hinks since 1985, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990. He specialises in advising owner-managed businesses on their financial and taxation position and wealth preservation strategies. Robin leads our healthcare department, and is our representative member of the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL). Robin also leads our Property Services Department where he has many years of experience.  Away from work, Robin is a trustee and treasurer of the Birmingham Civic Society, a trustee of the Birmingham Big Art Foundation, and follows a number of sports.

Peter SmithPartner

Qualifications: ACA, FCCA

Peter qualified as a chartered accountant in 2000 and has more than 25 years of experience working in accounting and audit.  Peter’s focus for the past fifteen years has been on the not for profit sector and pension schemes where he provides his clients with technical direction and support.  As a Trustee of an Almshouse charity, he leverages his personal experience when dealing with clients. Peter enjoys running, mountain biking and following sports.

Hamid BukhariPartner

Qualifications: BSc (Hons.), FCCA

Hamid joined JW Hinks in 2016, having qualified in 2007, as a hugely experienced accountant that specialises in the medical sector: doctors, dentists, hospitals, and consultants, whom he regularly lectures on financial and tax matters. Hamid enjoys travelling, and photography, and recently started CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. He is also a big tennis and football fan.

Kirsty JacksonPartner

Qualifications: BA (Hons.), ACA,FCCA

Kirsty is a highly skilled accountant who qualified in 2003 and has been at JW Hinks for 15 years. She is a strong believer in cloud accounting, and has an enormous amount of experience working with small and medium sized enterprises and start-ups in a variety of sectors. She specialises in statutory accounts preparation, management accounts, cash flow forecasting, VAT, and bookkeeping. An avid traveller, Kirsty is a married mother of one son, plays netball and enjoys socialising.

James CrusePartner

Qualifications: ACA, FCCA

James earned his ACCA qualification in 2006, before gaining FCCA status in 2011. He has been with JW Hinks since 2003, moving from a junior to senior member of our audit team. He specialises in the audit of companies, pension schemes, charities, and solicitors, and accounts preparation for sole traders, partnerships and audit-exempt companies. He lives with his wife and two children, and enjoys running, climbing, and hiking. He is also a proud and lifelong Aston Villa fan.

Claire FainService Charge Accounts Manager

Qualifications: FCCA

Claire joined JW Hinks and earned her ACCA qualification in 2015 and then obtained her FCCA qualification in 2020. Claire has twelve years of experience in property services, and manages our property services department. She lives with her husband and daughter, enjoys walking, reading, listening to music, going to the cinema, eating out, holidays, cross stitching and going to the gym.

Sarah BensonTax Manager

Qualifications: ATT, ACCA

Sarah joined JW Hinks LLP in June 2010 and was promoted to Tax Manager in September 2014. She has previously worked for a national firm and prior to that a city firm in Birmingham, where she trained in tax and gained an ATT qualification. She is also ACCA qualified. She provides tax compliance and taxation advice to sole traders, partnerships, individuals and limited companies. She has extensive experience in the healthcare sector and acts for many GPs and dentists.

David HewettAccounting Services Manager

Qualifications: ACA

David joined JW Hinks 2016 and was promoted to Business Services Manager in 2017. He became a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2015, and primarily advises start-ups, GP practices and a variety of SMEs in the region on their financial affairs. A keen football player and runner, David also has a PhD in materials science and is a member of Birmingham Future – the city’s young professionals organisation.

Fiona BoydAdministration Manager

Joining the firm in 2015, Fiona provides strategic support to senior partners and oversees the administrative function of JW Hinks. Fiona has a number of years of experience in the development of new business departments, managing brands, customer relations, and funding opportunities. Married to an avid rugby player, Fiona attends games across the country. She also enjoys sailing and has undertaken a competent crew course in Kiel, Germany.

Mohammed HafeezAudit Supervisor

Qualifications: FCCA

Mohammed joined JW Hinks in June 2007, is responsible for the supervision of the firm’s audits across a diverse range of sectors, including charities, pension schemes, manufacturing, social housing, and retail. Mohammed also carries out SRA audits for legal firms. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and is something of a movie buff. 

Matt PageAudit Manager

Qualifications: FCA

Matt holds a BSc (hons) and FCA qualification, and joined JW Hinks in 2020 as Audit Manager. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and specialises in audit and accounts preparation, corporation tax, management accounts, budgeting and cash flow forecasts. When not supporting clients in a wide range of sectors, Matt can be found playing sport or attending music festivals. He has captained and coached hockey teams, and enjoys running, having completed the London Marathon. 

Sally SmithPayroll Compliance Manager

Qualifications: ACIPP

Sally has been with JW Hinks since 2009, earning her certificate in payroll practice in 2015, and became an associated member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals in 2016. She has more than 10 years of experience, and specialises in payroll, calculation of earnings, tax and NIC, statutory payments and auto enrolment work place pensions. She lives with her family in Kings Heath and enjoys countryside walks with the dog, the Gym, HIIT workouts and she completing the wolf run in 2018,

Trevor FlemingPractice Administrator

Trevor joined JW Hinks in 2014 to provide installation and support services in IT & Telephone systems, supplies & services, procurement, marketing and social media, billing, business analysis, building and property management, credit control, internal training on computer systems, and the implementation of processes and procedures. A father to four daughters, Trevor volunteers as coach to a girl’s football team and sits on the committee of Sutton United Football Club as Girls & Ladies Section Manager.

Alan JoblingAccounting Services Manager

Alan became JW Hinks’ office manager in 1990, having already had 17 years of experience in the role with a smaller practice. Now business services manager, Alan specialises in installation and training on accounting systems, preparation of budgets and cashflow forecasts. Alan is happily married and a keen sportsman and fan who watches Rugby Union and enjoys running and mountain biking.

Charity of the year


At JW Hinks, we work just as hard for our local community as we do for our clients. Every year, we support a deserving charity that helps people who need it most. This year, we are working with Friends of Alfie Johnson, a Black Country organisation dedicated to helping children with disabilities pay for specialist equipment and services that will improve their quality of life. Environmental Policy


JW Hinks is committed to protecting the environment where possible. Being based outside the city centre allows us to reduce the production of emissions related to traffic congestion. We partner with Xero, Sage One, and QuickBooks to offer online accounting services to our clients, thereby encouraging a reduction in the use of paper.
